Day 1 – Rest, Relax, and Survive the Heat
After a comfortable night’s sleep (at least for those in the RV) we decided to find a breakfast spot to start our day out right. After a few Google searches, we fell upon [eafl id=”419″ name=”Harvest Moon” text=”Harvest Moon “] on Magnolia Blvd. It was a trendy little place in Valley Village, which I would highly recommend visiting the next time you are in LA! The menu is pretty straight forward, but offers a bit of everything, for every palette! I had the Moon Omelette (chicken, spinach, and kale), Alan had the Steak Burrito, and the kids had pancakes! Overall, it was a great breakfast – the kids asked to go every morning, which is a good sign!
Following breakfast we decided to head back to our RV and swim since the car thermometer was already reading 110 degrees (Fahrenheit – not that I needed to clarify that). It was a scorcher! Our friend, Alex, came over and he became our tour guide for the afternoon. The kids desperately (ok, maybe that’s a tad dramatic) wanted to see the Hollywood Sign, so we drove up through the hills and stopped just past Lake Hollywood Park (3160 Canyon Lake Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90068) for a quick touristy photo-op! No need to pay attention to the signs deterring you from driving through their neighborhoods – the roads are public, it’s just the residents try very hard to keep people like us from driving through their streets!
Alex then took us to [eafl id=”421″ name=”Jinky’s” text=”Jinky’s Cafe”] for lunch – directly across from one of the CBS studios (where 90210 was filmed among other things). Food portions were HUGE! Kirra and I both ordered salads (her, the Caesar, and me, the beet/goat cheese – delish). We could have easily shared a meal! Alan had crepes – Nutella & Banana of course! The other kiddos all had chicken fingers – good size portions! If it hadn’t been 115 degrees I would have totally ordered one of their MANY (21 on the menu) creative concoctions of chili, like East Indian Chicken Chili, but instead, I ordered a Bloody Mary – YUM! The best part of this locale is the vintage movie poster decor (and the possible celebrity sighting, which we had, although none of us could think of their names, so maybe not as famous as we thought – ha)!
Following lunch was more swimming, resting, and attempting to make that pizza in the small RV oven! No photo or video could capture the smell of burnt crust in that small space! A very great first day!
