Bribie Island

A letter to Peter, my husband’s cousin’s husband, on his concern about my lack of posting about our trip to Bribie Island back in December…

Dear Peter,
Yes, it’s true.  You were never formally thanked on the blog for the time we were able to spend with you and your family on Bribie Island.  Honestly, we had our lovely four days with you and then hit the ground running with holiday affairs and busyness.  I know, likely excuse.  I just wasn’t in the frame of mind to write about the most incredible time we had with you on the island.  Please consider this, although quite belated, my dearest, most heartfelt THANK YOU with a dash of “I’m sorry” and a whole lotta “get over it” (insert smiley wink)!   With that in mind, we would love to join you at Bribie again someday soon.  Please?
With love (and a bit of sass),
Megan, your wife’s favorite cousin’s wife

Bribie Island, although connected by a bridge from the mainland, feels like a million miles away from city life.  Just a couple of hours north of the Gold Coast, about an hour or so away from Brisbane, or a short drive south from the Sunshine Coast, Bribie is a perfect place for a quick weekend getaway.

Alan’s cousin and her family invited us for a visit just before the Christmas holidays.  We absolutely could not wait to get up to the island to unwind and relax.  Although, we had two kids who thought ear infections BEFORE our trip north was a good idea.  The kids were most excited to spend some uninterrupted time with their cousins on the beach.

For four days we spent time laughing, playing board games (Mastermind is seriously addictive), swimming, catching waves, walking along the beach, riding bikes, eating delicious food, and simply relaxing in the beautiful December weather for which Queensland is famous.

Our tribe highly recommends a visit to Bribie if you are in the Brisbane area…lots of options for places to stay, eat, and play!  And now I will let our photos do the talking…

Sandstone isn’t actually on Bribie, but instead is across the bridge on the mainland.  However, it is one of the coolest venues I have ever visited!  Between the rustic yet chic decor, the attention to detail with twinkle lights and potted plants around every corner and on every table, and the playground fit for any child who loves adventure, add Sandstone Point to your must-visit list!  Not to mention their food was divine and the sunset views were lovely.

P.S. Peter – Hopefully, I have redeemed my status as “your favorite blogging wife of your wife’s favorite cousin”.  Oh, and have I mentioned that we are extremely thankful for your hospitality while on Bribie?  Seriously, we had a blast!
