seek, world wanderers
explore the nooks and crannies
breathe unfiltered air
Our tribe is an international tribe, so to speak. Alan and I met when I was completing a study abroad semester in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia through a company called Australearn (which is now [eafl id=”505″ name=”Study Abroad” text=”International Studies Abroad”]) during my junior year at [eafl id=”506″ name=”Hope College” text=”Hope College”], Holland, Michigan. We met in the halls of our residence dorm over a Michael W. Smith song (long story). He, an Australian, me, an American. We found ourselves in a bit of a conundrum when feelings became serious – which country would we call home? After months of long-distance phone calls and IM messages (no, FaceTime and [eafl id=”507″ name=”Skype” text=”Skype”] and [eafl id=”508″ name=”What’sApp” text=”What’s App”] did not exist then) Alan made his way to the States, where we married and began establishing our tribe’s roots. However, wanderlust was in our souls and remains there to this day. We love the reminder that we are a very small part of a very BIG world. We also love the reminder that this world is more connected than we think! Both of these reasons are why we have not stopped traveling, even with four young children. Our greatest hope is to instill in them a wanderlust that will carry them to corners of the world of which we have only dreamed!
It is here that we will share our tales of traveling overseas with and without children, where we will hopefully encourage and inspire you to take a risk and plan an adventure in a land different from your own.
At times, we will have our extended tribe share their tales of traveling the world – more inspiration for you (and us)! Together, we can live vicariously through others to help expand our perspectives, to challenge our understanding of other cultures/religions, and to hopefully learn a bit about ourselves along the way!
So, stay tuned for posts on International Travel!
